私の翼 【ただ一日】

Don't mind my broken japanese.

Last Friday is when I flew my first plane and it was well, very very different from what I've expect. It's hard getting accustomed to steer with my feet and accelerate with my hand and not the other way around as in driving a car. Not to mention sitting on the left side instead of the right side of the vehicle, in this case a light Cessna 150 Aerobat VH-SRR plane.

The instructor was really friendly and after a short briefing about what I should expect when flying, we headed down to the runaway where the small plane is. Then he continued with instructions on how to inspect the plane before flying, which includes a damn long checklist of almost every part of the plane. Even after comfortably buckled up inside the plane, there were still a lot of interior stuff to check.

Oh, yes...look at all those indicators.

Then, we taxi down the runaway while he gave more instruction on taxing. In a long 10 minutes, I struggled to stop zigzagging on the runaway but to no avail...haha. This is followed by taking off, and to my surprised, taking off is easier than I thought...not to mentioned fun!

Callsign: S Romeo Romeo (hehe)

In the air, I did some climbs and descends which is ok although I still don't get the trimming thing, so I had more fun in banking and rolling instead. Making a whole 360 degree turn to the left and right while maintaining a steady altitude and attitude was actually pretty easy.

Landing was the worst! Maintaining a constant descending rate/angle towards the runaway is definitely hard and when the tires hit the ground I have to try to keep it running in a straight line. However, in the end I finally got use to steering with my feet, minimising the zigzagging.

A brief flight but a great experience. Fingers crossed for the scholarship.

Now, back to my studies....and my bed....Zzzzz
